Aliquippa looking forward to '09

We play to win the game. Playoffs? Playoffs? Unfortunately the Rabid Ghosts failed to make the '08 Fabio Cup Playoffs however we will be back strong next year like never before. We are hiring additional "sources" during the off-season to assist with our draft strategy for the 2009 season. Here's an outlook by position:

QB - we basically traded away Randy Moss on draft day for Jon Kitna. The Lions quarterback was expected to put up monstrous numbers with the weapons he had at his exposure however continuous back spasms ended his season and most likely his career as a starter in this league. Jason Campbell was very serviceable however due to the success of the ground game in D.C. the passing game was inconsistent at best. Jason has great potential as we wish him luck on his next endeavor whereever that may be. Daunte Culpepper was signed a few weeks back to see if he still had the "it" factor and although at this point it is undetermined he will be released. Joe Flacco was also brought on board late in the season and could develop into a premier signal caller in the FAA. The rookie will be a Rabid Ghost entering the draft in August however Aliquippa will be seeking a tenured quarterback

RB - fellow FAA owners were laughing on draft day when Quiptown drafted Steve Slaton in the 1st round yet has since been shown a bit of praise. Slaton has put out some great performances this season and now that Ahman Green has officially been sidelined for the remainder of the season the rookie back gets put to the test to see if he can handle the full workload. We envision that Sltaon will be wearing a Rabid Ghosts uniform for years to come. Another rookie suiting up for Aliquippa next season is Chris Johnson. He has shown flashes of brilliancy and is lobbying to get more goal line opportunities. Cedric Benson and Peyton Hillis will not be retained.

WR - As previously mentioned we traded away Randy Moss on draft day and later departed ways with Andre Johnson acquiring Ocho Stinko in a multi-player trade with Albany. We did manage to "accept" a trade when Pittsburgh offered Santana Moss in return for Julius Jones... STRAIGHT UP!!! Dwayne Bowe and Mark Bradley are NFL teammates that are competing for a roster spot. At this juncture we're looking to keep either Santana or Bowe and build more depth in the draft.

TE - Antonio Gates has been extremely productive in the past but this season his production has been hindered by a nagging foot injuries. It is always difficult to let somebody of this magnitude (#2 at his position) go however the rubber has met the road and it is in the best interest of both the organization and the player to move in different directions.

PK - David Akers kicked the ball well for us. We will again pick somebody late in the draft to kick through the uprights next season.

DEF - This position is over-rated. The Steelers, Ravens, Titans, and Bears are tops in the NFL but when it comes to the FAA the scoring can come from any team on any given field. For example in week 12 the 25th FAA ranked Detroit Lions got 21 points whereas the #1 ranked Eagles, #2 ranked Jets, and #2 ranked Packers combined for 19 points between the three of them! Due to keeper restrictions Aliquippa will be keeping the Oakland Raiders.

Slaton Smashes Through Rookie Wall

Steve Slaton, RB - Aliquippa Rabid Ghosts

News: So much for that rookie wall for Aliquippa's rookie RB Steve Slaton. The Rabid Ghosts 1st round pick and first-year starting RB amassed 156 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown on a 71-yard scamper in the 3rd quarter. He lost a fumble but was otherwise pristine in his second 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Analysis: Slaton carried four times for seven yards against Norfolk in Week 10 but showed he smashed through that rookie in Week 11. The Rabid Ghosts play against Albany in Week 12 and the Patroons have a lot of trouble stopping the his mouth. Slaton is a must-start as a high-end Fantasy RB.

Steve Slaton has his legs back after previously being said to be worn out, and is expected to handle a full workload against the Outlaws, according to the Beaver County Times. Aliquippa's rookie RB should be penciled into fantasy lineups as the Texans aim to exploit Aqua Man's 10th consecutive losing season.

Out of Reach...

Bob Drummond and the Mt Lebanon Outlaws have always been and will continue to be "out of reach" when it comes to competing for the Central Division Title.

Aliquippa may not be leading the division but I can assure you that we won't be cellar dwellars.

Different Stroke This... Aqua Man!!!

Drummond and the Outlaws showed up for the photoshoot this morning. The Mt Lebanon team photo will be covered on the gameday program this weekend in Aliquippa. Taking a look at this team no wonder they have never made the playoffs or even had a winning season!

The Rabid Ghosts will be sporting a commemorative patch and sticker on each jersey and helmet this weekend to help intimidate the Outlaws.

Aliquippa is also doing a "White Out" for the game handing out Rabid Ghosts T-Shirts (below). It is going to be a very hostile environment as the Rabid Ghosts need a victory to help keep playoff hopes alive.

Did Slaton hit the Rookie Wall?

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Steve Slaton (Aliquippa) had his touches limited in Week 10 because he looked "worn down" according to HC Chris Zuccaro. The coaching staff will continue to monitor Slaton's touched in practice, but he said the rookie already looked fresher. "I think he's fresher and I'm going to find ways this week to freshen him even more," Zuccaro said. "So, I'll make sure he's getting his legs back. It's understandable after the amount of reps he's played, especially in Norfolk. But he's upbeat and he's practiced well today."

Daunte Culpepper to Start for Aliquippa

Culpepper will start for the Rabid Ghosts today. We feel that he gives us the better chance to win today although we understand that he has not started a game for a while the WR corp in Detroit has a favorable matchup against the Jags. Gus did a great job helping to shovel the Jackers into the soil last weekend but today Daunte is our man.

Breaking News out of Aliquippa today as Daunte Culpepper is signed to a 2-year deal.

There is no indication whether or not the former NFL standout QB will take the field this season although Zuc believes it was a chance worth taking signing him.

"Daunte Culpepper was a great talent. He is now a member of the Rabid Ghosts. Jason Campbell has done a great job for us this season and remains our #1 guy behind center. Daunte was simply brought in to compete."

The quarterback position in Aliquippa is not the strongest in the FAA and it is obvious that the franchise is more than reaching in regards to this most recent acquisition.

Aliquippa also inked Gus Frerotte to a 1-week contract as it appears he was soley brought in to start tomorrow as Jason Campbell would face a dominant Steelers defense on MNF.

Have You Seen Me?

Even though the Jersey Jackers have been missing since after week 4 of the FAA season Aliquippa is still preparing as if there will be a game.

The Jackers were in the midst of the early season banter especially since starting the 2008 season undefeated with a 4-0 record although having one of the easiest schedules to start the year. His first four opponents are currently at a combined 13-19 record.

Unfortunately the Jersey team and Owner Erick Carcamo have went M.I.A. since. They are riding a 4-game losing skid with severe beatdowns from the hands of Imperial, Norfolk, and New York. Not to mention an embarrassing loss to the 1-7 Tokyo Kamikazes.

There has been speculation that FOX is in the works of creating a remake of the series C.H.i.P.S. to compete with NBC's Knight Rider. Perhaps the Jersey owner removed the paper bag from his head and headed to the studios in California.

Santana Moss Speaks

Aliquippa, PA (Beaver County) - He began the season as a member of the Pittsburgh Ballers and it appeared as if he would have a promising year after pulling in 27 receptions and 421 yards after the first 4 games.

However the next two weeks Moss had a total of 2 receptions for 22 yards combined. Most would not panic yet rookie coach, Jason Kirkland, did more than that...

"Man, I was traded straight up for Julius Jones. Are you kidding me?!?... Aliquippa clearly got the better end of the deal. I'm not knocking Julius. He has potential. But man, I been gettin' it done." The shocking part of this deal is that it was offered BY PITTSBURGH! All the Rabid Ghosts had to do was accept. Since the trade Santana Moss has returned to normalcy by catching 13 balls for 215 yards over the past two weeks. During the most recent week against the hapless Lions he even returned a punt 80 yards to paydirt. According to the Washington Post, Moss was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. When asked about this feat Moss replied, "It's all good. I'm a team player. And I'm special. Damn right!"

He returns to Pittsburgh on MNF although this is against the only legit football team in the Steelers. His hamstring injury may sideline him for this game but he will have plenty of time to recover during his bye in week 10.

Moss hopes to help Aliquippa return to their 3rd FAA Championship Game this decade.

FAA Week 8 Lines and Predictions - presented by Zuc

Norfolk (3-4) -8.5 Mt Lebo (3-4)

Both teams come into this game looking to get out of the basement of their divisions. The Shipmen avg a dismal 66.9 ppg this season yet somehow have managed to win two consecutive games. RBs Frank Gore (vs SEA) and Clinton Portis (at DET) are set to have monsterous outings against two of the worst defenses in the league. Kurt Warner has been impressive this season (#4 FAA QB/20.8 ppg) in the FAA but this week he airs it up versus the sting Carolina D. WR Braylon Edwards has not lived up to his potential in '08 however WR Cotchery should have a solid day as Jet Favre bounces back after last week's loss to the Raiders. The Outlaws also pulled out two straight Ws and average nearly 23 more ppg than Norfolk. Calvin Johnson (#2 FAA WR / 13.7 ppg) is a prime choice especially now that Roy Williams departed for the circus in Dallas. Mt Lebo's backfield is comprised of 2 RBBC as Forte is on a bye and Fast Willie is still banged up. Parker may return although it is bleak. The G-Men are likely to sack Big Ben 5-6 times and force a couple turnovers. I'll smoke a blunt with the Outlaws bench but giving the points taking the Shipmen to cover comfortably.

Imperial (4-3) -3.5 Tokyo (1-6)

The East Division leading Maulers are riddled by injuries to Anquan Boldin and Sammy Morris in addition to the #3 FAA WR, Greg Jennings, on a bye. Big Ben won't have much time in the pocket but should be able to throw a few balls into the endzone despite having his deep threat suspended for being on a date with Mary Jane. You gotta like the RB matchups with Thomas Jones (vs KC) and Donut White (vs IND). The wideout performance is shakey to say the least as unproven Donnie Avery gets his first start and Boldin iffy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nate Washington inserted before kickoff. The Kamikazes won last week after starting the season 0-6. This team is just not very good averaging a league low 66.6 ppg thus far in the year of ObamaMania. QB Cassel is no Tom Brady but did appear to show flashes of being a capable fill-in last week and hopes to continue at home against the Rams. Be cautious however as the St Louis defense reeled off two straight most recently shutting down the Cowboys in a shocker. RBs Ronnie Brown (vs BUF) and Brandon Jacobs (at PIT) face stout defenses. The WR combo of Wes Welker and Lee Evans is simply just okay. Again, Tokyo is just not that good. Give the points and go with Limpy in a low scoring affair.

Pittsburgh (3-4) +9.5 Aliquippa (3-4)

These teams are both 3rd in their respective divisions and need a win badly. The Ballers are coming off a loss and need big play from all starters this week to avoid add to the "L" column. QB Peyton Manning is not the same as he once was. He still has the weapons to put up huge numbers although the undefeated Titans won't make it easy. Is Julius Jones really the sole RB suiting up? Reports out of Seattle imply that Maurice Morris will see much more time. The Cardinals @ Panthers game portrays incredible talent with Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Smith taking the field. Patrick Crayton is now 3rd on the Dallas depth chart but for some reason remains a starter for the Ballers. The Cowboys defense is trainwreck. Aliquippa started the season 3-1 but has lost 3 weeks in a row. Others have mentioned this is one of the most over-rated teams in the FAA and the recent three game slide backs this up. QB Jason Campbell should have an above average day against the hapless Lions. The young backfield consists of both rookies in Steve Slaton (vs CIN) and Chris Johnson (vs IND) who have reportedly signed multi-year deals to remain in Aliquippa long term. WR Santana Moss is out to prove that he is a better value than Julius Jones after being traded away from Pittsburgh in late trade last week. Ocho Stinko is penciled in for the start. Despite the rumors that Antonio Gates is on his way out of Aliquippa he remains on the squad. Defensive production hopes to improve with the addition of Carolina. Look for Aliquippa to win but not cover the spread. Take the points if you're a betting man.

Sewickley (6-1) -2.5 (Henderson (3-4)

The F-Bombs gave up 102 pts last week yet managed to put up 103 to hand the Clients their first loss of the season last week. The mighty F-Bombs don't appear to be so mighty this week with Aaron Rodgers (#1 FAA QB / 21.7 ppg) on a bye and RB Stephen Jackson dinged up. Reports are speculating that he may be scratched from the lineup in week 8. I was expecting Larry Johnson to get the nod however his recent abuse of women has him sidelined. The 3 WR set of Desean Jackson, Reggie Wayne, and Anthony Gonzalez all have big play potential. The success of the Hitmen depends primarily on the play of QB McNabb as the rest of the lineup does not have much star quality. RB Maurice Jones-Drew (vs CLE) could bust it for a big day. WR Hines Ward should see plenty of work due to the suspension of Santonio "Bluntman" Holmes. WR Kevin Curtis is averaging 0.0 ppg simply because he has not taken the field as he returns from his injury. How much work will he get remains to be seen. I'm staying away from this one as it could go either way but if I were forced to place a bet I'd lean towards Sewickley as they know how to win.

Albany (4-3) -6.5 Honolulu (2-5)

BA and his daddy are talking the talk and walking the walk putting out three straight wins. They are in sole 2nd place in the Central. Did you know that the Patroons have the highest PA (Points Against) in the league? QB Drew Brees (#2 FAA QB / 21.6 ppg) was held w/o a TD last week but should rebound nicely this week against the porus San Diego defenders. RBs Marshawn Lynch (at MIA) and Mewelde Moore (vs NYG) are expected to get much action. The WR combo of the aging Harrison and young talented phenom in AJ are great weapons to have at your disposal. The Patriots embarrassed the Broncos on MNF but they have lost their cheapshot artist for the year. The Destroyers bring QB Eli Manning to Heinz Field where the environment is expected to be beyond hostile. RB LT (at NO) has been hampered by a lingering injury and could be spelled early if it causes him greater agony. RB Michael Turner (#4 FAA RB / 16.0 ppg) may not find much room against the fierce Eagles D. I am unable to come up with material for the remainder of his lineup. Well, the Jets do host the pathetic Chiefs. Get the diapers ready because BA should dirty the Destroyers drawers. Give the points and go with Albany.

*GAME OF THE WEEK*

Jersey (4-3) +6 New York (6-1)

The Jackers appear to be having multiple QBRs as they have RB Adrian Peterson on his active roster even though he is on a bye. We should expect Earnest Graham (at DAL) to be inserted before kickoff. Jet Favre will undoubetdly be the gunslinger he is known as he is looking to mend his OT loss to the Raiders last weekend. This week he welcomes Kansas City and their horendousness. RB Marion Barber (vs TB) will be working for every bit of yardage but should manage to put up his #2 FAA RB average (16.9 ppg) or more. The Jackers WR duo of TJ Whosyourmamma and Laveraneus Coles are not exactly sure things although they could easily double their avg any given Sunday. The Titans host the Colts on MNF. The Clients are good. They have only lost 3 games since the start of last year. No matter what O says NY is ticked off after putting up 102 last week and end up losing. QB Philip Rivers (#3 FAA QB / 21.1 ppg) should have Chris Chambers back and should not have an issue against the Saints defense. RB Brian Westbrook (vs ATL) is expected to return from his ankle injury and should receive several standing ovations throughout the game in Philadelphia. RB Willis McGahee (vs OAK) appears to be as healthy as he is going to get and although he put up a big game last week he may have difficulties against the Raiders not to mention being spelled by Le'Ron McClain and possibilly even Ray Rice. I'm not saying that McGahee is not going to produce rather saying it may be a bit more troublesome than last week BUT this game is being played in Baltimore. The WR duo of Randy Moss and Terrell Owens is a beautiful thing. Not having Tom Brady and Tony Romo throwing to them however is not so great. TE Witten is the best in the league. The Ravens D could get a shutout. Hey Carc! Schedule another QBR as you'll probably get more enjoyment out of it than your losing to the Clients. I like the Clients to cover but not by much.
